How to Write a Matrimonial Profile That Actually Gets Responses

Two people with almost identical backgrounds can have wildly different results on a matrimonial platform. The difference is almost never the biodata. It's how the profile is written.

Start with a real sentence, not a category

"Simple, God-fearing, family-oriented person looking for the same" describes several million people. It communicates nothing and is instantly forgettable.

Compare: "I teach mathematics at a school in Johar Town, spend most Sundays at my parents' place, and I'm looking for someone who's patient with my terrible cooking." One of those is a person. The other is a template.

Be specific about your work

"Businessman" tells a family nothing and, in a market where people worry about exaggeration, can raise suspicion. Say what the business actually is, roughly how long you've run it, and where.

Write about family properly

In Pakistan, families evaluate families. Say who's in your household, what your parents do, where your siblings are, and — importantly — what your family expects after marriage. Being upfront about a joint-family expectation filters out mismatches before anyone's time is wasted.

Say what you want without listing demands

There's a real difference between describing the life you hope to build and issuing a specification sheet. Height and complexion requirements read poorly and shrink your response rate considerably.

  • Better: "I'd like someone who values education and wants to keep learning after marriage."
  • Worse: "Must be fair, 5'4"+, from a well-settled family only."

Photos: the practical rules

  • One clear, recent, well-lit photo where your face is fully visible
  • Two or three additional natural photos — at a family event, travelling, at work
  • No heavy filters, no sunglasses in the primary photo, no group shots where you can't be identified
  • If privacy matters to you, use ShadiLife's photo-blur setting rather than uploading nothing

A profile with no photograph receives a small fraction of the interest a photographed one does. If you're not ready to be public, blur is the middle path.

Complete every field

Incomplete profiles rank lower and read as uncommitted. Education, profession, sect, family details, preferences — fill them all. Our completion meter shows exactly what's missing.

The mistakes that quietly kill responses

  • Copy-pasted 'looking for a life partner' filler
  • Writing in third person about yourself
  • Listing salary expectations
  • Leaving the bio blank entirely
  • Photos that are visibly years out of date

Then verify

A completed, verified profile outperforms an unverified one substantially — members filter for verified profiles, and many won't respond without a trust badge. Verify your CNIC once and it applies to every conversation afterwards.

Create your profile — it takes about ten minutes to do properly.
